In chapter 12, Ralph is huddled in the jungle near Castle Rock.Samneric, who are guarding Castle Rock under Jack's Permission are approached by Ralph. They inform him that Jack's tribe will be out hunting him the next day, and they had sharpened the sticks on both ends. Ralph tells Samneric of his hiding spot, and proceeds back to it. Scared by Jack's power, Samneric tells Jack about Ralph's hiding spot . Other attempts of getting Ralph from his hiding spot are unsuccessful, so they set the entire area on fire for pay back. Ralph begins to run from the advancing fire, making his way to Simon's mat of creepers where he hides and lays low. The savages advance with the fire, searching, hunting for Ralph. They finally reach Ralph's hiding spot, and Roger looks in. Ralph attacked him, pushed him over and continued running to the beach. Running fast, he almost crashed into a Naval officer standing at the beach, whom was attracted by all the fire and smoke. He assumed that their stay on the island, must have been all "fun and games," but is surprised at the spears and face paint on many of the boys. Some are crying, others are confused. The officer is told that two boys were killed, and everyone was taken to a Navy cruiser. Thursday, May 3, 2007

At the beginning of this chapter, it starts off with Samneric off collecting wood while Piggy tries to reassure Ralph that what happened with Simon was an accident. In the mean time, Jack has held a boy at Castle Rock tied up and beaten, while roger stays on guard ready to hurl a boulder on any incoming intruders. Jack has kept this boy tied up and beaten just to remind anyone of will happens if they try to interfere or go against Jack and his plans. Ralph starts to ponder over watching the fire but luckily for him, Piggy is always there to remind him that it is the most important thing that the have. They decide to go to their shelters to get some rest but are awoken by some awkward sounds. In fear that it is the "Beast" coming after them they all flea but in reality it is only Jack and his tribe looking for fire. They end up breaking into the shelter and start fighting Piggy for his glasses.
The Daily Mercury
Today at 7pm, on a mysterious island with growing green trees and clouds of leaves. Simon was found dead drifting the glowing open sea going to the golden gates to see St. Peter. He was murdered by a young tribe lead by Jack Merridew who is infamous as the leader of the hunters.
Jack and his hunters were prancing around in tight circle singing in fear and pride. Simon was going towards them and was explaining to them who the beast was. It seems that the "Beast" is the Lord of the Flies. Even then now we have no clue that the Lord of the Flies is. Some Psychologists say it is completely made up or truly is a new beast.
" It is impossible to have a such a beast. Lord of the Flies being described from other members of the group is horrendous and frightening." said Wrighty Mick Tighty, Psychologist from Harvard. " Their atrocious depictions are completely ludicrous to reality."
"It is possible that the people on the island were starving and dehydrated creating mirages and leaving reality behind them giving ideas from simple subjects which makes beast." said Lefty McGee of Stanford University.
This meant that Simon senseless death might of been an accident or a amazing plan to eliminate him from the island which the hungry survivors wish to live off.

Chapter Summary 9 ~A View to a Death~
Simon woke up after hallucinating and imagining about talking to the Lord of the Flies. He was covered with bugs when he woke up and was emotionless when walking out of the forest. He discovers the rotting pilot hanging by the parachute and was vomiting until there was nothing to come out. Meanwhile Ralph and Piggy were playing by the beach and was splashing water at each other. Most of the boys have joined Jack and are eating when Ralph and Piggy bump into them. Jack orders one of the boys to give them both a fair amount of meat. Jack has truly become a leader at this point, but he treats all of them like servants instead of friends. Jack asks who will join his tribe and Ralph argues with him that he chosen as chief in the beginning. As the weather started to get worse, Jack told everybody to dance. Everybody including Ralph and Piggy joined the tribal dance, they all got their spears and started chanting "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!." Roger was imitating a pig and charged at Jack and the group was actually hitting them. Simon comes out the forest and is mistaken as the beastie and is beaten to death by the group of hyped up boys. Simon's dead body eventually drifted into the sea.

SUPPLEMENTARY TASK 3: Simon
In chapter one we aren't told very much about simon other then his name and that he is in Jack's "choir". Also that he goes off with the choir to help hunt for food. "the choir boy who had fainted sat up against a palm trunk, smiled pallidly at Ralph and said that his name was Simon" page 18. Chapter Two: at this point in the book we still do not learn much more about Simon but we do get the feeling that others may feel he is rather awkward due to his fainting all the time. " 'He's always throwing a faint,' said merridew. 'He did in Gib.; and Addis; and at matins over the precentor.' " page 16. In chapter 3 we start to see that Simon seems to be a very handy and helpful person because he and Ralph work together to try and build shelter and he also goes off to pick fruit for the littl'uns. In chapter four we get the impression that Simon might have a short working span for during chapter 3 he seems to be very helpful but then in chapter four he is swimming with Jack and the choir in the bathing pool instead of keeping a watch on the fire. In chapter five we experience a newer side to Simon for when the idea of there being a "beast" on the island, he claims that there is one but that it is "only us" page 96. In chapter six not much is mentioned about Simon but he goes back to helping out Ralph with things. "Ralph and Simon picked him up unhandily and carried him to a shelter." page 103.
The Daily Mercury
The Daily Mercury
On an island in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately eight pm, Simon's body was found on the nearby beach side. He was floating in the shallow water from being murdered from a group of survivors on the mysterious island. He was seen as the person who at the time as slightly insane and wasn't in any tribe that the survivors created. Most people are concerned on how the group of people, who committed the crime, why did they murder him? What is it for fear or stupidity and ego? The question that usually rings people's ears are the witnesses who had to see Simon's body drift away in sea towards a better place.
SUPPLEMENTARY TASK 3: Ralph
In the beginning of the book Ralph is very calm and wants to try to get everybody organized. When the question of who should be “chief” comes up, Jack says, “I ought to be chief” pg 18 but when they have a vote Ralph is more favored and therefore becomes elected to be chief. At this point in the book he wants to get everybody organized and he sets the groups main goal, which is to get off the island safely. In chapter two he starts to take more advantage of his power as chief and sets down some more rules. For example “ We can’t have everybody talking at once. We’ll have to have ‘Hands up’ like at school.’ ” pg 31. Another rule that was made was that Ralph was the only one who was aloud to interrupt, “ ‘And he won’t be interrupted. Except by me.’ ”. I believe that Ralph starts to use his authority more in the following chapters because he sees that things may not get done if rules are not set down and if they don’t have someone to lead. In chapter three Simon and Ralph are constructing huts but Ralph complains that none of the other boys are helping them. “All day I have been working with Simon. No one else.” Pg 51. Jack once again argues with Ralph that hunting is much more important than building huts. In the forth chapter Jack and his choir capture and kill the pig but meanwhile Ralph and the others are swimming in the bathing pool and they see smoke coming from a ship off in the distance. At this time Ralph becomes very upset with Jack and the choir because they were told to instead of hunting the pig stay and tend to the fire so they could be seen and rescued. “ ‘There was a ship. Out there. You said you’d keep the fire going and you let it out!’ ”. Once again in chapter 5, Ralph calls another meeting and really tries to emphasize that keeping the fire going should be their number one priority. “The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don’t keep a fire going?” And finally in chapter 6, Ralph seems to be eager to press on after finding nothing at Castle Rock.
