SUPPLEMENTARY TASK 3: Simon
In chapter one we aren't told very much about simon other then his name and that he is in Jack's "choir". Also that he goes off with the choir to help hunt for food. "the choir boy who had fainted sat up against a palm trunk, smiled pallidly at Ralph and said that his name was Simon" page 18. Chapter Two: at this point in the book we still do not learn much more about Simon but we do get the feeling that others may feel he is rather awkward due to his fainting all the time. " 'He's always throwing a faint,' said merridew. 'He did in Gib.; and Addis; and at matins over the precentor.' " page 16. In chapter 3 we start to see that Simon seems to be a very handy and helpful person because he and Ralph work together to try and build shelter and he also goes off to pick fruit for the littl'uns. In chapter four we get the impression that Simon might have a short working span for during chapter 3 he seems to be very helpful but then in chapter four he is swimming with Jack and the choir in the bathing pool instead of keeping a watch on the fire. In chapter five we experience a newer side to Simon for when the idea of there being a "beast" on the island, he claims that there is one but that it is "only us" page 96. In chapter six not much is mentioned about Simon but he goes back to helping out Ralph with things. "Ralph and Simon picked him up unhandily and carried him to a shelter." page 103.
