At the beginning of this chapter, it starts off with Samneric off collecting wood while Piggy tries to reassure Ralph that what happened with Simon was an accident. In the mean time, Jack has held a boy at Castle Rock tied up and beaten, while roger stays on guard ready to hurl a boulder on any incoming intruders. Jack has kept this boy tied up and beaten just to remind anyone of will happens if they try to interfere or go against Jack and his plans. Ralph starts to ponder over watching the fire but luckily for him, Piggy is always there to remind him that it is the most important thing that the have. They decide to go to their shelters to get some rest but are awoken by some awkward sounds. In fear that it is the "Beast" coming after them they all flea but in reality it is only Jack and his tribe looking for fire. They end up breaking into the shelter and start fighting Piggy for his glasses.
